ACTION ALERT: Rep Jared Huffman’s H.R.6687—a giveaway to ranchers.

ACTION ALERT: Rep Jared Huffman’s H.R.6687—a giveaway to ranchers.

August 28, 2018

Seashore ranchers, the National Park Service, and environmental groups signed a settlement agreement requiring an environmental impact statement and public comment to a plan that would determine the future of ranching at Point Reyes Seashore. Huffman promised not to interfere with the agreed-upon settlement agreement and the General Management Plan amendment process. But the agricultural interests apparently got to him. He just introduced H.R.6687 directing the Secretary of the Interior to make the dairies and ranches on at the Seashore permanent, short circuiting the public planning process. National parks belongs to all Americans. Backroom politics shouldn’t determine how our national parks are managed. Your letters to Congress could decide the fate of Point Reyes National Seashore and the Golden Gate National Recreation Area parks for generations to come. Send your letter to the bill’s sponsor Rep. Jared Huffman, Rep. Huffman, Jared [D-CA-2] and to the House Natural Resources Committee, to say that you think the settlement process, providing public comment to the GMP Amendment, should determine if, and to what extent, ranching belongs in these national parks.
